The Gospel

The good news, or “gospel”, is about a person – Jesus, the Messiah. He started his preaching by declaring “the Kingdom of God is nearby.”

Through Jesus' life, death and resurrection we can have a growing relationship with God, the King, experiencing his powerful reign changing our lives, and having confidence that we will spend eternity with him.

None of this happens because we are naturally good, or have learned to do the right things.  A Christian is someone who recognises that we are not good enough and never will be without being rescued. We were all in the same boat, we were all far from God.

If we come to trust in Jesus then God takes away our shame and guilt; adopts us as his children and gives us the power to live a new life. None of this is deserved – it is all a generous gift from God (Grace).

An exchange took place at the cross. Jesus took all of our sin and shame and then he rose again to show that he had conquered this evil and even death ultimately!

The bible says “If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”. We have an opportunity to accept what Jesus did for us on the cross and to know God personally.

ADMIT that you need God in your life and can never get there on your own

BELIEVE that God sent Jesus to be your Lord and to rescue you through the cross

CONSIDER whether you are ready to submit to Jesus as the King of your life

RECEIVE forgiveness and new spiritual life

It is very helpful to work through these steps with someone who already knows Jesus, so you can be clear that you understand. Coming along to a lively bible believing church will also help you develop your relationship with God further.
